It's Halloween!
This is personally one of my favorite holidays. From the dressing up, funky makeup, scary movies, and of course the candy, there's hardly anything boring about it. It's all very exciting to see people dress up as their favorite characters or really, anything they want. Especially when there's cool makeup involved. For my trick or treaters, how many of you guys delve into a business trade with your friends over candy? Because I remember doing that and making high profits off of Hershey kisses (I really love Hershey kisses okay). As for anyone who gives out candy, you know you give extra candy to that one baby who looks the cutest in their costume. Don't lie. We all do it. Lets now turn this blog post into a little history lesson. Do any of you know about the origins of Halloween? Take a look at the title of this blog post; "All Hollows' Eve" is one of the fancy, traditional names for Halloween. Other variations are Hallowe'en, Allhalloween, and All Saints' Eve. Halloween originated many years ago, dating back to the Roman empire and other Celtic cultures across Europe. While we take joy from Halloween, the Romanians and Celts feared it; it was a frightening day for them because the spirits of the dead would descend down to the world of the living. Everyone took the holiday seriously, offering sacrifices for the spirits to appease them and creating masks in an effort to scare them off. That's why we wear costumes and creepy masks nowadays; it's also why we see those cheesy horror movies about ghosts haunting that one girl who decides to walk towards the loud noise she heard in the kitchen rather than away from it (-_-). Anyways, it's really significant that this pagan holiday, born so many years ago, is still alive and kickin' in our day (luckily without all the sacrifices and fear of spirits). Now to lighten the mood, are any of you guys excited for Halloween? Is anyone dressing up or going trick or treating? Let us know your plans for Halloween in the comments below!
