It's been quite the journey, making t-shirts, advertising, getting local businesses to donate gift cards, and of course creating this amazing blog. But all the hard work paid off because the Hawk Writing Center officially opens today! Remember to come to our kick off party today, after school from 2:30 to 3:15 at the very center of where everything started: Ms. Passino's room, 2457 on the high school side. There'll be food, prizes, raffles, and you'll get to meet the tutors! Do you know what else today is? It's National Writing Day! Check out http://www.ncte.org/dayonwriting for more information. Be sure to take 2 minutes out of your time and stop by Ms. Passino's room to do a little writing exercise for us: what writing means to you. It doesn't even need to be a paragraph long, just something short and sweet. By doing this, you'll be celebrating Writing Day and helping to contribute to the Writing Center. Remember that the Writing Center will be open Monday-Thursday during 5th period (during ALL lunches as well) and Monday after school. More details about the Hawk Writing Center will be discussed in the kick off party, along with any questions you might have. We look forward to meeting you! The Hawk Writing Center will be hosting a college essay workshop next Monday, October 6th. The workshop will be held in the Middle School Lecture Hall during SOAR (4th Period). For those interested, please sign up through Family Connection on Blackboard. It does not matter where in the writing process attendees are, there will be resources for everyone. We will give away bookmarks and helpful handouts you can hang on to, along with a stamp of participation that will bring you one step closer to getting a prize from our rewards card :) We hope to see many of Hayfield's super seniors there! However if you are unable to attend the attached document is the handout from the session.
Whew! After days of editing, our blog is finally up and running. Its been pretty hectic here at the Writing Center. We aren't open yet, but we're getting ready! Our different committees are getting to work with advertising and trying to reach out to the teachers and student body. Others are even calling businesses to get them to donate! So far we've gotten donations from Starbucks and Dairy Queen. There are others, but I can't remember some of them :) Some of the Advanced Comp 2 students are preparing presentations for writing conferences (College Workshop - more info on that soon!) and we're also coming up with T-shirt designs (only for adv. comp students :P). We still have about a month to go for the Hawk Writing Center to open and to meet you all! Remember that October 20th is the big date: It's the opening of the Writing Center as well as the kick off party after school that you all are invited to. We'll be waiting to see you there!
